Nutritious lunches for a class of 30 Cambodian children, giving them the energy they need to learn and grow.
Quantity:
Starvation and malnutrition are widespread in Cambodia, and many kids go to school hungry. Among under-5 children, 45% are stunted and 29% are underweight.
These school lunches are provided to underprivileged kids living in slums in Siem Reap who attend a free school, and will often be the only meal they receive that day. Each meal is made with fresh local ingredients which provide the essential nutrients the children often lack from their diet at home. The dishes vary from fried rice with chicken/pork and vegetables, pumpkin and coconut milk soup, to the traditional Khmer dish, bobor. The children will also receive a boiled egg and a multivitamin tablet, giving them the energy they need to absorb their education.
